I was pretty happy knitting wise when Christmas was over. First because I had finally finished all the Christmas knitting which included two Honey Cowls, three Phoebe Sweaters, one Cardigan for Merry and one Ode to Veera Cowl. And second because I had not knitted much over the whole Christmas days. So when I came back home I was ready to start something new. Now I can happily join Ginny’s first Yarn Along of 2014. It’s been two years today that I opened up this blog. and again this year the blog evolved. I didn’t do much travelling so the knitting took over and then I couldn’t stop and had to throw in a bit of nailpolish too. Then I designed a replicate of the cowl Katniss is wearing in the second Hunger Games movie. When I did this in summer and blogged about it, nobody seemed to care much but after the movie came out people started showing up making the visitor numbers soar and I was super surprised about this. Now overall in 2013 I have:
Like last year, I took part in Natalie’s Secret Santa Swap over at her blog Marigold’s Loft. While last year’s gifts seemed to come in quite quickly, this year we all waited quite a while for them. I was really worried about my gift but it seems to have made its way to Sarah at This Little Life on Mine Plus 2 too. My box of christmas joy actually chose to come so late to Düsseldorf, that I was already in London. But when I came home today, I found a note in my post box and went to pick it up at the post office. When I opened my box I was really stunned. Not only did I get one gift, but five! There was a lovely scraf with a lace pattern, an flower ornament (still have to decide where this will go), some beewax christmas ornaments (these will unfortunately have to wait till next Christmas before they’ll be showcased), a paper star (so cool, we were making these too when I was a kid. I think next year Michael’s nieces will get the proper paper for that and I will make some with them!) and last but definitively not least Carrie’s daughter made stitch markers for me! Let me dwell on that a little: Before I started using ravelry and learning about lace patterns and knitting in the round, I didn’t even know they existed. Then suddenly I realised stitch markers were super practical. But except for some weird plastic thingies I own only one proper stitch marker and had to make makeshift loops of yarn when ever I needed more. And now I got not only a second one but four! This is usually enough to make a whole sweater. So cool! Plus they are lovely to look at too! Thank you! If you now are curious on what else was gifted, here you can check out what the others got.
Today is wednesday, the usual Yarn Along Day. But it is also Christmas so I guess, not much update on knitting. Everything was finished in time for Christmas, fits and was greatly appreciated and I’m enjoying a little knitting free time before I can finally start something for myself again. A little reading update: I finally finished Pride & Prejudice on my iPad mainly because I spend 4 hours on Monday the 23rd sitting in a plane on the runway of London City Airport waiting for the storm to cease.
We made it to Frankfurt thanks to the most wonderful captain of the flight BA 8734 who Continue reading
As Michael’s family lives in London he spends Christmas there and as Christmas is so conveniently located in the week I took a plane on Friday. Michael and his mother had taken one flight earlier but when I booked I wasn’t sure if I could take half the day off and went in the evening.
Since then we’ve been having loads of family time. Michael’s nieces have kept us busy during the day and in the evening we have been feasting on lovely stuff. Continue reading
Now let’s start with the real stuff: let’s follow a pattern. There are very simple patterns but you need to learn how to read them. A very simple scarf is the Wheat Scarf by Tin Can Knits. Just follow the link
Da gibt es zum Beispiel einen Schal, der vorallem mit kraus Rechts arbeitet und einen kleinen Streifen glatt rechts enthält:
After my christmas ornament mani I did one with little white christmas trees on red nails. But to be honest, I wasn’t satisfied. The trees on the left hand looked ok but not great and on the right hand I stopped painting trees after the first turned out to be, well, lets not talk about it. This week Idecide to keep my mani low key. I just wanted pine green nails. But the polish seems to be rather bad because even with a topcoat I had tipwear already this morning. And because I needed concealer I was in the make area at my local drug storemeaning I had to stop and check on nail polishes as I usually do. Now I promised myself Continue reading
